₹400 Crore! 11.15 carat Williamson Pink Star diamond sold at record price

Two famous pink gems are the source of the name Williamson Pink Star. The first is the 23.60-carat Williamson diamond, received by the late Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift in 1947, and the second is the 59.60-carat Pink Star diamond, which set a record at auction in 2017. $71.2 million.

“The Williamson Pink star, who made history tonight, made me cry a little when I saw him in the auction room. Grateful to spend so much time with this beauty before this season’s auction, studying and writing the book for it – and just being able to work on the project as a whole,” wrote the Sotheby’s auctioneer who sold it .

The 11.15-carat Williamson Pink star is known for its inner clarity. The CTF Pink Star, which was sold by Sotheby’s in 2017, still holds the world auction record for any gemstone. It was the first intrinsically flawless fancy fiery pink diamond weighing more than 10 carats to be offered at auction.

The Williamson Pink Star has won high praise for its rarity and beauty during its journey from rough stone weighing 32.32 carats to finished stone weighing 11.15 carats, cut and polished by Dicor’s master cutters.

“This is an astonishing result, proving the resilience of top diamonds in a volatile economy,” said Tobias Cormind, managing director of 77 Diamonds. “Hard assets like world-class diamonds have a history of performing well even in times of volatility,” he said. “The prices of some of the world’s highest quality diamonds have more than doubled in the past 10 years.”
