Around 100 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Lakkadi area of Kerala’s Wayanad district complained of vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain over the past few days, following which the state health department visited the place and started treating all of them. A suspected case of food-poisoning was reported in Vythiri Hospital, a boarding school with a large number of students being hospitalised.
The team collected drinking water samples from the institution and sent them for testing to Kozhikode Public Sector Health Inspectors. Vikram said that the stool and blood samples of the children were sent to Alappuzha Institute of Virology and Bathory Public Health Lab, respectively.
It further said that out of a total of 98 students, one child was ill on January 24, 11 on January 27, 20 on January 29 and 66 on Monday were admitted to the taluk hospital.

The district administration said that though the condition of none of the children was critical, they were being monitored. Meanwhile, the students, teachers, servicemen and kitchen staff in the institute were instructed to take precautions. 486 are normal in government boarding school.
