Fishermen in British Columbia, Canada recently caught a giant white sturgeon that is over ten feet long and estimated to be at least 100 years old.
According to a Facebook post, “newbie” fishermen Steve Ecklund and Mark Bois went on a fishing trip on Father’s Day with guides from River Monster Adventures, Nick McCabe and Tyler Speed, near Lilleut when they caught the giant fish. It took about two hours to reel the white sturgeon. The video shows the animal leaping out of the water, revealing its true size.

Mr Ecklund reported that the sturgeon was 10 feet and an inch tall, and 57 inches tall. “Our last fish of the day ends up as the largest sturgeon caught in company history,” he wrote in the caption, “This animal will surely push 700lbs (317kg) and be 100 years old.”

Commenting on the social media post, River Monster Adventures wrote, “Om we are lost for words who is a true dinosaur.” “It really is a monster sturgeon! Great prey,” said one user. “Now this is a real prehistoric fish! Good job guys!” added another. A third user jokingly wrote, “Good thing you put it in the water. If you remove it, the river will fall 2 feet.”

According to newsweekThe white sturgeon is the largest freshwater fish native to North America, growing up to 14 feet long and weighing up to 680 kilograms. According to the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society, white sturgeon can also live for more than 150 years.
This sturgeon had not been previously tagged, leading officials to suspect that it may have been the first to be caught. Guides reportedly scoured the river using sonar equipment to help fishermen find the biggest catch.
