Officials say it was not a “random attack”.
Ten people were shot and two others injured in a shooting at a shopping mall in South Carolina’s capital, leading officials to believe was not a random attack.
Colombian Police Chief WH “Skip” Holbrook said three people with firearms had been taken into custody in connection with the Saturday afternoon shooting at Columbiana Center. He said at least one of those three men fired with a weapon.
“We don’t believe it was random,” Holbrook said. “We assume they knew each other and that something led to the gunfire.”
Officials said no casualties were reported but eight of the victims were taken to hospital. Holbrook said two of those eight are in critical condition and six are in a stable condition. He said the age of the victims ranged between 15 and 73 years.
The mall was being emptied store-by-store and police urged anyone seeking shelter to call 911 so officers could find them.
Workers at the two shops, which had gathered in a mostly empty parking lot on Saturday evening, said they had not heard or seen anything during the shooting, but followed the mall’s alert system and were evacuated by police shortly after. They said they waited for hours before the police let them in to retrieve their car keys and personal belongings so they could leave. He declined to be named, citing company policies.
The Columbiana Center said in a statement, “Today’s isolated, senseless act of violence is deeply disturbing and our thoughts are with all those affected. We appreciate the prompt response and continued support of our security team and our colleagues in law enforcement.” Grateful for.”
