A 12-year-old girl sustained multiple fractures when she broke off the track and fell on a makeshift entertainment fair in Anand Nagar on Friday night. This girl is out of danger but she is undergoing treatment.
The girl’s parents are upset that despite cases being filed against the joyride owners and operators, the ‘fish theme fair’ is still going on, threatening the safety of other children.
Rampriya, a resident of Sarjapur Road, told that she and her husband took their daughter Anusha CK to a temporary entertainment fair on Friday evening.
“There was a toy car ride in which she was sitting. Two rounds were fine, but during the third round, the car suddenly derailed and fell down. As soon as my daughter fell down, the car went over her. He was saved just in time. Otherwise the other car would have passed over his neck. I shudder at the thought of what must have happened,” she said.
The girl was treated at a private hospital and was discharged on Sunday. Ms. Rampriya told Hindu That her daughter had suffered multiple fractures, including a clavicle (collar bone) and elbow, and doctors have said it may take about three months for her to recover.
register FIR
The father, Chandrakant, lodged a complaint with the HAL police, who have filed an FIR against the owners and operators of the special joyride at the entertainment fair under sections 287 (negligent act endangering human life) and 337 (hurry and negligence act). Indian Penal Code.
However, the parents are not happy. “The police have registered a case only against the special joyride and the entertainment fair is going on without any security measures. We went to the fair assuming that all safety precautions are taken as they require permission from BBMP and police to run the mela. But after the accident, we saw that most of the machinery got rusted and got damaged. If safety measures are not taken, more accidents are waiting to happen in these fairs. I don’t want any other child to have to go through what my child has gone through,” said Ms. Rampriya.
The Police Commissionerate is the licensing authority for the fair. Sources said that the license was given to operate the fair from April 8 to May 25. The accident happened after the license period on May 27.
Ms Rampriya said the fair is still not closed and is running, clearly in violation of the licence. However, when contacted, a senior HAL police station official said that they have written to the BBMP to call off the mela.
