125 new Kovid cases were reported in Delhi in 24 hours, which is the highest in 6 months

According to data shared by Delhi’s health department here on Wednesday, the national capital recorded 125 Covid cases in a day with a positivity rate of 0.20 per cent, while zero deaths were reported due to the viral infection.

With this, the total COVID-19 cases reported in the city so far rose to 14,42,515. Of these, over 14.16 lakh people have recovered from the disease, the department said. The death toll due to COVID-19 is 25,102.

Delhi has recorded four deaths due to COVID so far in December. Seven deaths occurred in November, four in October and five in September.

The city recorded 102 cases on Tuesday with a positivity rate of 0.20 per cent and 91 cases on Monday with the same positivity rate.

On Sunday, the city recorded 107 cases, while the positivity rate stood at 0.17 per cent.

On Saturday 86 and Friday 69 cases were reported with positivity of 0.13 per cent and 0.12 per cent respectively.

A total of 63,313 COVID tests, including 56,511 RT-PCRs, were conducted in the city on Tuesday, the bulletin said. There are 624 active cases in the city, up from 557 on Tuesday.

The Health Department bulletin said that the number of people in home isolation is 289, which was 262 on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the number of active cases crossed the 500-mark after more than four months. The national capital had 513 active cases on August 15. The number of containment zones in the city has increased to 184 from 173 on Tuesday, the bulletin said.

Amid Omicron’s scare, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Monday said that all samples that have tested positive for COVID-19 will now be sent for genome sequencing.

According to the Chief Minister, the decision was taken in a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, during which the situation of Omicron including its possible impacts and steps to deal with it were discussed.

He also urged the Center to allow the administration of booster shots to fully vaccinated city residents.

Kejriwal also said that the home isolation system in Delhi will be strengthened as according to experts the Omicron variant causes only mild symptoms.

He said that the government has made adequate arrangements for hospital beds, oxygen, medicines and everything else that may be required to combat the virus.

“We will not let the people of Delhi face any kind of problem in treatment,” he said.

The chief minister held a meeting on November 30 to review preparedness to deal with a possible third wave of coronavirus and the spread of the Omron variant. It has been assessed that 30,000 COVID beds are ready in Delhi.

According to an official statement, the government will be able to arrange 100 beds per ward at two weeks’ notice, taking the total bed capacity in Delhi to over 64,000. Along with this, 6,800 ICU beds will also be ready soon.

The government statement said that at present the medicine stock is being added and the system of home isolation is being strengthened.
