Mumbai reported 130 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest daily increase since February, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said.
This took the number of infections recorded so far in India’s financial capital to 10,60,317. No deaths related to the pandemic were recorded in Mumbai on Thursday.
But the daily increase in infections in the city touched the 100 mark for the third consecutive day. On Wednesday, 117 cases were reported in Mumbai and 100 cases a day earlier.
The death toll remained unchanged at 19,563, while the number of recoveries rose to 10,40,072 after 90 patients were discharged from hospitals.
Of the latest cases, two patients have been admitted to the hospital but are not on oxygen support, the BMC said.
There are currently 682 active cases in the city. 8,031 swab samples were tested since last evening, taking the total number of tests conducted so far to 1,69,30,365.
According to the BMC’s bulletin, only 15 of the 26,009 hospital beds are occupied, and the average recovery rate is 98 per cent.
The overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases between April 28 and May 4 was 0.008 per cent, it said.
