Police personnel have been deployed in villages under Munnirapallam police station area as these murders had caste color.
Police have arrested 14 people in connection with the two murders in which a farmhand and a farmer were beheaded since Monday night.
In the first incident, 37-year-old K Sankarasubramaniam, a farmhand from Keezha Seval Nainarkulam, was beheaded by an armed gang on Monday night near Vaduvoorpatti liquor shop. The attackers took the severed head of Sankarasubramaniam and placed it on the grave of Manthiram in Dakshina Gopalasamudram, who was murdered in November 2013. Since the killers suspected that Sankarasubramaniam was close to Manthiram’s killers, his head was cremated on his grave.
Munnirapallam police arrested Manthiram’s son Maharaja alias Raja, 20, along with his accomplices K. Pandy alias ‘Chiyan’ Pandy, 31, G. Prabhakaran, 26, R Aravind, Dinesh alias Chiyan, all from near Kothathankulam, D. Seetharamakrishnan alias Pillay are arrested. The hunt is on to nab , 24, Paraiyadi of Tirunelveli Town, and a few more.
In the second incident, which is a sequel to the murder of Sankarasubramaniam, a 37-year-old farmer from Gopalasamudram, A.K. Mariappan was beheaded on Wednesday morning, and his head was placed at the spot where Sankarasubramaniam was killed.

As two more murders shook the district, Inspector General of Police, South Zone, TS Anbu, who visited some villages in Munnirapallam police station area and his subordinates here on Thursday to discuss the prevailing situation after the caste-based killings met with. He superintendent of police N. Manivannan along with visited some villages of Munnirapallam police station area. Mr Anbu while talking to the villagers, who assured him of fair and speedy action against the culprits involved in the gruesome killings, appealed to them to end the enmity and ensure peace.
He also met Collector V. Vishnu at the Collectorate. Speaking to reporters after discussions with the Collector, Mr. Anbu said that after the killings, adequate security arrangements were made in the affected areas and the attackers who carried out the killings were arrested.
The IG said that more than 1,500 police personnel have been deployed as part of the security arrangements.
