Police said on Wednesday that 146 people, including All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) councilor Nazir Ahmed Honyal, were arrested in connection with the stone-pelting incident that took place at Old Hubli police station on April 16. ,
On Saturday, AIMIM leader and Hubballi unit president Dadapir Betgeri was arrested in connection with the incident.
Earlier, the husband of AIMIM councilor Irfan Nalwatwad was also arrested.
N Labhuram, Commissioner of Police, Hubballi Dharwad Commissionerate said, “145 out of 146 accused have been sent to Hubballi, Dharwad, Ballari, Mysore and Kalaburagi jails in judicial custody till May 30. Accused number one Wasim Pathan is in police custody.”
The stone-pelting incident took place at Old Hubli police station on April 16, in which several policemen, including an inspector, were injured. The crowd gathered outside the police station suddenly turned violent and started pelting stones at the police station and the police vehicles.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has assured action against the perpetrators of the incident.
Bommai said, “Police will not hesitate to take strict action against those who take law into their own hands. We will also take action against those instigating it. We should not give it a political colour.”
