16 people were killed and 10 others injured in an explosion at lunch in an office cafeteria in southwest China on January 7, officials said.
The Chongqing city government said in an online statement that the suspected cause of the explosion was a gas leak.
The cafeteria collapsed, trapping the victims inside. The official Xinhua news agency said rescue workers searched the rubble at night and all the bodies were recovered by midnight. One of the survivors is in critical condition, Xinhua said.
The explosion occurred at 12:10 pm at a government sub-district office in Wulong district, which is about 75 kilometers (120 mi) west of Chongqing city center and known for its beautiful karst rock formations.
