Around 170 cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital till July 30 this year, the highest in the period since 2017.
At least 26 cases of the vector-borne disease were reported in July, it said, according to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) report, 23 cases of dengue in January in the city, 16 in February, 22 in March, 20 in April were recorded. 30 in May and 32 in June.
The total number of dengue cases in the capital this year is 169 till July 30.
Till July 25, 159 cases had been registered in the city. The report said that 10 new cases have been reported in a week.
Also, in 2017, Delhi had registered 185 cases during the period from January 1 to July 30.
The report said that between January 1 and July 30 last year, the number of dengue cases in Delhi stood at 52. Similar figures were 31 in 2020, 40 in 2019, 56 in 2018.
The MCD report states that no one has died of this disease so far this year.
Cases of vector-borne diseases are usually reported between July and November, sometimes as long as mid-December.
Civic officials said dengue cases were being registered earlier this year as the weather conditions are favorable for breeding of mosquitoes.
Last year, the national capital recorded 9,613 dengue cases, the highest since 2015, with 23 deaths, the highest since 2016.
In 2016, 10 people died of dengue. Delhi recorded two dengue deaths in 2019, four in 2018 and 10 in 2017.
According to official data, Delhi recorded 4,431 dengue cases in 2016, 4,726 in 2017, 2,798 in 2018, 2,036 in 2019 and 1,072 in 2020.
In 2015, the city saw a massive dengue outbreak, with the number of cases crossing 10,600 in October alone. This was Delhi’s worst dengue outbreak since 1996.
The report said that 33 cases of malaria and nine cases of chikungunya have been reported in Delhi so far this year. PTI KND TDS TDS
