2 constables sacked for taking online bribe from couple for smoking on footpath

Two constables of the Bengaluru Police forced the couple to pay Rs 4,000 by transferring the money to the account of a nearby tea seller.

Two police constables attached to Adugodi police station, who were accused of forcing a couple to pay bribe to smoke on the footpath by threatening to file a case a few months ago, were dismissed from service on Thursday.

Identified as Aravind and Malappa Vallikar, patrolling encountered the couple while they were smoking on the footpath near a tea stall.

Both threatened to file a case and impose a fine of Rs 50,000. The couple tried to reason with them, but the two allegedly misbehaved with them.

They forced the couple to give ₹4,000 and transferred it to the account of a nearby tea seller. The couple later shared their ordeal on social media tagging senior police officers. Taking the matter seriously, the city police station in-charge has ordered an inquiry. Following the investigation, both were suspended pending investigation. After completion of the investigation, he was found guilty and dismissed from service. In other cases, investigations into other bribery cases involving policemen and a home guard are pending.
