Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the continuous hike in cooking gas prices. The Congress party leader compared the 2014 LPG gas rate figures with the current cylinder price and wrote, “For the price of 2 cylinders then 1”.
According to Gandhi’s tweet, in 2014, when his party was in power, lpg gas price Was 410 and there was a subsidy 827. However, the price of LPG has increased under the BJP rule 999 with zero-subsidy, Gandhi said.
The Lok Sabha MP wrote on Twitter, “Only Congress rules for the welfare of poor and middle class Indian families. This is the core of our economic policy.”
Yesterday, the Center increased the prices of LPG by how much 50 per cylinder, the second hike in rates in just six weeks after the strengthening of international energy rates.
Now the price of non-subsidized LPG 999.50 per 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi, above 949.50 earlier, as per the price notification of the state-owned fuel retailers. Since April 2021, prices have increased 190 per cylinder.
Non-subsidised LPG is the one that consumers buy after exhausting their quota of 12 cylinders at subsidized or below market rates. However, the government does not provide any subsidy on LPG in most cities and consumers including poor women who get free connections under the much talked about Ujjwala scheme, have the same refill cost of non-subsidised or market price LPG.
