8:42 am: United Airlines Flight 93 to San Francisco took off in Newark after a delay. Seven crew members, 33 passengers and four hijackers were on board.

8:46 am: Flight 11 crashed on the north side of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. All 92 people on board were killed

8:50 am: President George W. Bush has been alerted to the accident.

8:50-8:54 am: Flight 77 is hijacked over southern Ohio

9:03 am: Flight 175 crashed south of the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

9:28 am: Flight 93 has been hijacked somewhere over northern Ohio.

9:37 am: Flight 77 crashed on the west side of the Pentagon Building, causing a violent fire.

9:45 am: The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has suspended all flights. All aircraft have been directed to land at the nearest airport.

9:57 am: Passengers aboard Flight 93 rebelled against the hijackers and attempted to take control of the plane.

9:59 am: The South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed about an hour after Flight 175 took effect. More than 800 people were killed.

10:03 am: Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, following a tornado in the cockpits of passengers and crew. Forty people died in the accident. But the kidnappers narrowly escaped.
