2021 Ducati Monster prices start at Rs. 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom)

Ducati India The all-new 2021 Ducati Monster has been launched with prices starting from ₹10.99 Lakh (ex-showroom). The new Monster is more powerful, lighter, more compact, and is said to be easier to ride, but fast enough for any type of rider. The 2021 Ducati Monster is expected to be fun both on the road and on the track, and is available in two variants, a base Monster, and a Monster Plus with minor cosmetic additions. Here is an in-depth look at the new 2021 Ducati Monster that has been launched in India.

The biggest and most prominent changes are the exposed steel trellis frame, a signature design, and the absence of a structural element of the Monster since it was introduced in the 1990s.

Design and ergonomics

The biggest and most prominent change is the departure from the traditional steel trellis frame, which has been a signature backbone of the Monster since it was introduced in 1993. The new Monster gets a brand new aluminum frame, and the bike is also lighter than before, with a dry weight of 166 kg. The styling is quite different from the earlier Monsters, though the overall silhouette is distinctly that of the Ducati Monster. The perforated fuel tank and new LED headlight and the overall look of the bike resembles that of the MV Agusta Naked. The handlebars have been moved closer to the rider by 70 mm and the footpegs are positioned 10 mm lower than before, and these changes are likely to make the seating geometry more comfortable than before.

The 937 cc, Testastretta, 11° L-twin engine is liquid-cooled and makes 110 bhp at 9,250 rpm and 93 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. As standard, there is a 6-speed gearbox with up/down quickshifter. Compared to the previous Ducati Monster 821, the engine makes more power, a 2 bhp increase in output, while maximum torque goes up to 6 Nm.

The 2021 Monster also gets a 4.3-inch TFT console with Panigale V4-inspired graphics. The electronics suite includes cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and three riding modes along with Ducati Power Launch.

Electronics and Features

The new Monster is equipped with a state-of-the-art electronics package with Corning ABS, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Monster, Ducati Power Launch. The new monster also has three riding modes; Sports, tourism and urban. Sport offers high power mode, Touring offers medium power and Urban offers low power mode. The new Monster Panigale also comes with a 4.3-inch full-colour TFT instrument console with V4-inspired graphics.

A reduced steering diameter, along with an increased steering angle from 36 degrees, allows the new Monster to be more maneuverable to help turn even in restricted spaces. The bike is lighter than before with a dry weight of 166 kg, which is 18 kg less than before. The rear sub-frame is made of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP), which makes it lighter and stronger than before. The Monster gets 43mm upside down forks with 130mm of travel and an adjustable monoshock at the rear with 140mm of travel.

Lightweight aluminum front frame replaces traditional steel trellis frame

The braking system is from Brembo, with Brembo M4.32 4-piston monoblock callipers that hold the two 320mm discs on the front wheel. At the rear of the bike is a single 245 mm disc gripped by Brembo calipers. Like the front brake, it has sintered brake pads. The bike also gets new 17-inch alloys which are lighter than before. They are shod in Pirelli Diablo Rosso III rubber, 120/70 up front and 180/55 at the rear.

The base Monster is priced at ₹ 10.99 Lakh (ex-showroom) in Red, and is available in two additional color options, Aviator Gray or Dark Stealth at ₹ 11.09 Lakh (ex-showroom). The Ducati Monster is available in two variants, a standard Monster and a higher-spec Monster Plus with a flyscreen and rear seat cover, priced at ₹ 11.24 lakh (ex-showroom). Monster Plus in two additional color options, Dark Stealth or Aviator Gray price is ₹ 11.34 Lakh (ex-showroom). At those prices, the new Ducati Monster isn’t exactly an affordable middleweight nude. Its closest rival is the Triumph Street Triple R, priced at ₹9.15 lakh (ex-showroom), which is more affordable than the Monster. The top-spec and more powerful Triumph Street Triple RS is priced at ₹ 11.35 Lakh (ex-showroom), which really goes up against the new Ducati Monster.
