A 22-year-old woman doctor was stabbed to death at a taluk hospital in Kottarakkara here on Wednesday after she was brought there by the police after a quarrel with her family members.
According to an official of the Kottarakkara police station, when the wound on the man’s leg was being bandaged by the doctor, he suddenly became agitated and attacked everyone standing there with scissors and a knife.
The young doctor bore the brunt of the attack, while the police personnel accompanying him were also injured.
The doctor was rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram but could not be saved.
Giving details of the incident, an official of the Kottarakkara police station said that the man had called the emergency number to save himself after a fight with his family members.
The police, who reached the spot, found him in an injured condition and took him to Taluk Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
“He had consumed alcohol and was violent when we got him to the hospital. He was alone with the doctor because we were not allowed into the room when the patient’s wound was being dressed.”

He also said that while a case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered in view of the death of the doctor after the attack, the accused is likely to be charged with murder.
Reacting to the incident, an official of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) told a TV channel that it was an unfortunate and sad incident and doctors across Kerala would protest against it.
“Such incidents should not happen. We (doctors) cannot continue working under such circumstances. It is unacceptable that our lives are at risk when we are trying to save lives. objected to such attacks. We are angry and saddened by this incident.
The IMA official said Dr Azizia was a house surgeon at the Medical College Hospital and was under training at the Taluk Hospital.
The IMA official said several attempts were made to save him, but his life could not be saved.
According to visuals on news channels, medical professionals took to the streets in Kottarakkara to protest against the incident.
