According to the MCD report on Monday, the number of dengue infections in the city continued to rise as 272 new cases were recorded in the last week (till December 2), taking the total number of cases for this year to over 3,500.

More than half of the total case load – 2,354 out of 3,595 – were reported in areas under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), while 934 cases remain unresolved after investigation.

So far, October and November have seen the highest number of cases at 1,238 and 1,420 respectively.

While civic officials have said that cases of the vector-borne disease have peaked in the city, the weekly number of cases shows only a marginal decline.

A senior MCD official said the weekly numbers mostly included new cases and some backlog cases. “Deaths may have happened due to dengue but it is not clear as these cases are still under investigation and we cannot confirm till the process is completed. However, with regard to fresh cases of dengue, there is no reason to panic. Doesn’t matter and they are slowly decreasing this month.

Last year, most cases were reported in November with 6,739 cases, while the total caseload for the year stood at 9,613 and 23 deaths.

According to the civic body, there has been no death due to dengue this year.

According to the MCD, mosquito breeding was found in over 1.69 lakh houses and the civic body issued over 1.19 lakh legal notices in this regard.
