2nd T20I: Rovman Powell, Brandon King, Obed McCoy star as West Indies beat Bangladesh by 35 runs

Rovman Powell hit a 28-ball 61 as West Indies beat Bangladesh by 35 runs in the second game of their three-match T20I series at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica on June 3.

The hosts lost the early wickets of Kyle Meyers and Shamrah Brooks, but Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran steadied the ship. The duo shared a 74-run partnership for the second wicket and set the stage for the other batsmen.

Pooran was a watchful as he scored 34 off 30 balls in front of Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, who bowled a one-wicket maiden, caught him from the front. King, on the other hand, scored 57 runs in 43 balls with the help of seven fours and a six.

However, it was Rovman Powell who gave a finishing kick to West Indies’ innings. The right-handed batsman scored the joint third fastest T20I fifty in just 20 balls for the Caribbean side.

Powell remained unbeaten on 61 off 28 and ensured that the home team set Bangladesh a formidable target of 194 runs to chase down the target. Shorful Islam picked up two wickets for the Tigers, but leaked runs at an economy rate of 10.

Shakib’s knock in vain

Obed McCoy dismissed both his openers Amanul Haque Bijoy and Liton Das in double quick time.

Captain Mahmudullah hit a six and a four off Odeon Smith and in the same over, McCoy was dismissed at mid-off. Afif Hossain Dhrubo and the experienced Shakib Al Hasan added 55 runs to help the Tigers somehow recover.

Romario Shepherd separated the two when Dhrubo scored 34 off 27, which played a foul scoop in the hands of the keeper.

Nurul Hasan looked promising in the first T20I but could not make it into the second. He died while trying to take the attack on left-hander Aqeel Hossein.

Shakib scored a fifty in 45 balls, but he did not get the full support of others. The veteran remained unbeaten on 68 for 52 with the help of five fours and three sixes, but he could only manage 158 for six in 20 overs.

The third and final T20I of the series is scheduled to take place at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, July 7.
