Three persons to celebrate dog’s birthday amid pandemic guidelines.

Ahmedabad:

Three people, including two brothers, were arrested under the Epidemic Diseases Act after a large number of people attended the birthday party of their pet dog in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad in violation of pandemic guidelines, police said on Saturday.

Chirag Patel and his brother Urvish Patel, both residents of Krishnanagar in Ahmedabad city, had thrown a big party with their friend Divyesh Mahariya on the birthday of their pet dog AB, an Indian spitz, a police officer said. Apart from the family members of the three, their friends also attended the ceremony held on a plot on Friday night. He said the ceremony violated the COVID-19 guidelines related to social distancing and wearing of face masks.

A popular folk singer performed at the event and a cake was also cut.

An FIR was registered at Nikol police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Epidemic Diseases Act, following which Chirag Patel, Urvish Patel and Divyesh Mahariya were arrested.

Gujarat on Friday reported 5,396 new COVID-19 cases, of which Ahmedabad city alone reported 2,281 cases. According to the health department, there are 8,700 active cases in the city.

To stop the transmission, the Gujarat government on Friday imposed additional restrictions and extended the night curfew in cities.

As per the new guidelines, not more than 400 persons are allowed in open spaces for political, social or religious functions.
