3 Bonus Shares: ITC Shares Turn From ₹1 Lakh To ₹1.23 Crore In 20 Years

Bonus Shares: ITC shares are one of the dividend paying stocks listed on Dalal Street. However, the stock has a history of rewarding its long-term investors through the issuance of bonus shares. In the last 20 years, ITC has declared Turning Bonus Shares on three occasions. 1 lakh of a long term investor 1.23 crore in the last two decades.

As per the information available on the official website of BSE — bseindia.com ITC share price has traded ex-bonus on three occasions in the last two decades. On 21 September 2005, the shares of ITC traded ex-bonus shares for issue of bonus shares in the ratio of 1:2. This means that one bonus share was given to eligible ITC shareholders for holding two shares of ITC. Similarly, on 3 August 2010, the shares of ITC traded ex-bonus to issue bonus shares in the ratio of 1:1. That is, one bonus share was given to eligible ITC shareholders for holding one ITC stock.

Similarly, the shares of ITC traded ex-bonus stock for issue of 1:2 bonus shares on 1 July 2016. This means that the company provided one bonus share for every two shares held by eligible ITC shareholders.

effect on Investment in two decades

If an investor had invested 1 lakh in ITC shares twenty years ago, he would have to pay 7,142 ITC shares 14 per share. After the issue of 1:2 bonus shares in 2005, this shareholding of 7,142 would have converted into 10,713 ITC shares without any investment.

Subsequently, after the issue of 1:1 bonus shares in 2010, the investor’s shareholding would have increased from 10,713 to 21,426 ITC shares. Similarly, these 21,426 shares of ITC would have increased to 32,139 shares after the issue of 1:2 bonus shares.

ITC’s stock closed at Rs. 383.80 per share on Friday on the NSE. So, if an investor had invested 1 lakh in ITC twenty years back, its becomes 1 lakh 1.23 crore ( 383.80 x 32,139) today, provided the investor has remained invested in the stock during the period mentioned above.

ITC Dividend History

Apart from bonus shares, ITC shares are also one of the dividend paying shares. It traded ex-dividend for payment on 15 February 2023 6 per equity share as interim dividend to its eligible shareholders. In 2022, ITC shares traded ex-dividend in February and May. In the year 2021, ITC shares traded ex-dividend in the month of February and June.

In Covid-hit 2020, ITC shares trade high ex-dividend for payment on 6th July 2020 10.15 per share dividend to its eligible shareholders. As per information available on BSE website, ITC shares have been paying dividend to its shareholders every year since 2007.
