Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday announced 300 units of free electricity every month to every household in the state from July 1. Free electricity will continue to the farming community.
“From July 1, every household in Punjab will have 300 units of free electricity every month – 600 units for 2 months. Earlier, BC, BPL, freedom fighter families used to get 200 units free electricity, now they will also get 300 units free.
“Households that consume more than 600 units of electricity in 2 months, for example – 640 units or 645 units – will have to pay only for the additional 40 or 45 units they have consumed over 600 units ” Bhagwant Mannu added.
The Punjab government has waived off the arrears of old electricity bills up to December 31, 2021, of the families having power load up to 2 kW. Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira asked Mann why free electricity would be given from the month of July itself and whether electricity consumers would have to pay the full bill for consumption of more than 300 units.
In a tweet, the Bholath MLA said, “I welcome Bhagwant Mann to fulfill his promise of 300 units of free electricity, but why wait till July 1? Is there any issue of financial management? And please clarify that Will the bill be 301 units. Full bill should be collected from the consumers? Finally any steps have been taken to eliminate the tubewell subsidy?”
Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Waring tweeted, “Bhagwant Maan ji, Halwa Khane mein hai proof… The truth of your 300 unit free electricity will be tested in detail and the conditions attached to it… Best luck to PSPCL , who now have to survive somehow.”
