31 students test positive for Kovid in Karnataka Medical College

Thirty-one students of a medical college in Bellary, Karnataka have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last three days, officials said today.

All 31 students are final year MBBS students at Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences.

According to the college authorities, random tests were conducted among 250 students residing in a hostel who were exposed to the virus. 50 staff members were also tested for COVID.

Dr. T Gangadhargowda, Director, VIMS told PTI-Bhasha, “All the students in the hostel were subjected to random testing of Kovid. Those found infected have been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

While most of the students are asymptomatic, some of them are showing mild symptoms.

Earlier today, over 50 people, including students and a faculty member, tested positive for COVID-19 at IIT-Guwahati, forcing the authorities to impose restrictions on the campus.

Parameshwara Iyer, Dean-PR, IIT-Guwahati said that almost 99% of the cases were people who had returned to the campus from outside Assam after the holidays.
