Several people with serious criminal antecedents were nabbed by the police in Thiruvananthapuram district in connection with Operation AAAG, a state-wide campaign launched by the police since late Saturday night to crackdown on anti-social activities. A total of 333 people have been arrested in 239 cases registered from across the capital district.
According to CH Nagaraju, district police chief (Thiruvananthapuram city), 113 people have been detained in the city. These include 22 people who were arrested as a precautionary measure and 41 against whom court warrants were issued. Venganoor resident Nithin, 24, accused in multiple cases, was detained by the Kovalam police under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAPA).

Mr. Nagaraju said that 62 of those detained were not involved in any recent case but had a criminal history. To ensure that they do not indulge in such activities in future, the police have collected information including their mobile numbers, vehicle details and details of their associates. He has been given a stern warning and kept under observation. Some people arrested recently in bailable cases were also taken into custody.
The police have also taken steps to ascertain the employment and livelihood details of youths who do not have a rowdy history-sheet as part of “correctional efforts” to rehabilitate them.
Thiruvananthapuram Rural also held 217 people, including 53 who were arrested in warrant cases. District police chief D. Shilpa said those arrested included those who had violated provisions of Kappa and were involved in cases of attempt to murder and use of country-made bombs.

Referring to the alleged attack on a woman near the Museum police station late on Saturday night, Mr. Nagaraju announced the launch of night-time patrolling by the Pink Police to prevent attacks against women and children.
