Coimbatore: The district administration will deploy 3,860 police personnel on Tuesday for security during the counting of urban local body elections, Coimbatore collector G.S. Sameeran said.
Samiran told reporters on Monday that 2,400 policemen would be deployed at the counting center of the Government College of Technology in Coimbatore city, while 1,460 policemen would be deployed in municipalities and nagar panchayats.
The counting centers in municipalities are at VN Krishnasamy Naidu College of Arts and Science mettuapalayam Municipality, Nallamuthu Gounder Mahalingam College in Pollachi Municipality, Government Arts and Science College in Valparai Municipality, Metro Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Karamadai Municipality, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Polytechnic College in Gudalur, St. Joseph Girls Higher Secondary School in Karumathampatti and Sri Narayan Guru Polytechnic College, Madukkarai.

They should follow the Covid-19 appropriate behaviour,” said the collector. “There will be 140 counting tables for municipal corporations, 42 for municipalities and 66 for nagar panchayats. There will be a counting supervisor and a counting assistant at each table. 733 CCTV cameras have been installed at the centres. More than 150 officers will be posted as micro observers.
The elected representatives will be administered the oath on March 2. The election of the mayor, deputy mayor and president will be held on March 4.
On Saturday, voting was held for 100 wards in Municipal Corporation, 198 wards in Municipalities and 504 wards in Nagar Panchayat.
