Mumbai, May 29 (PTI) 3F Oil Palm said on Thursday that it has started a farmer awareness program in 50 villages of Andhra Pradesh to promote sustainable oil palm cultivation.
The initiative launched in collaboration with the state’s horticulture department is being held in Eluru, West Godavari and Eastern Godavari districts, 3F Oil Palm said in a statement.
India currently imports more than 60 percent of its edible oil requirements, with annual imports more than 13 million tonnes.

To reduce import dependence, the government launched a national mission on Adible Oil-Oil Palm to bring an additional 6.5 lakh hectares under oil palm cultivation by 2025-26.
Andhra Pradesh has played an important role in this mission, which contributes more than 60 percent of India’s total oil palm cultivation, currently more than 1.5 lakh hectares of oil is under the palm.
“This joint effort underlines the commitment of both the 3F oil palm and horticulture department to promote the oil palm sector in the state and contribute to the large goal of self -reliance in edible oil production.
