5.8 magnitude earthquake hits Japan’s Ryukyu island

The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Ryukyu Island in the far southwest of Japan on Sunday.

The EMSC said the quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 mi). It later reduced the magnitude to 5.4.

There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties.
