About 20 years ago, the power steering assembly contained a hydraulic unit, necessitating the use of steering fluid. This hydraulic pump was driven directly by the engine. Due to additional changes and modifications to the steering assembly, making this option available in budget cars was an expensive affair. But now, electric power steering units can be connected to normal non-power steering assemblies with ease and minimal changes. Although power steering is being adopted in almost all the cars available in the market, some manufacturers have decided to drop this option in some of their lowest budget models due to competitive pricing and lack of dedicated regulations or guidelines for the same.

The Power Mirror arrived in the Indian market courtesy of Mercedes Benz and similar imported cars. Power mirrors allow the driver to adjust the exterior mirrors with the help of electronic toggle switches placed inside the cabin. This trend was later seen in mid-size and luxury sedans in the early 2000s. In recent years, with the increasing affordability of technology and Indian manufacturers striving to match global standards, many entry-level hatchbacks have power mirrors as well. Many compact hatchbacks also give their users the option of electronically folding their ORVMs, ensuring mirror protection in unsafe parking spaces and easy adjustment in inclement weather.

This technology was first introduced to the automotive industry by Mercedes Benz. In the olden days, ABS was a high-value safety feature found only in high-end cars. In recent years, although ABS was available in lower-end cars, it was offered as an option. Following the RTO’s decision in April 2019, all automakers were forced to provide ABS in all vehicles manufactured.

This is done with the help of highly sensitive mini explosive device which triggers without any lag after the collision. Airbags ensure that the driver and co-passengers are protected against any shocks or collisions with foreign objects at the front. Although airbags are an essential feature, in the earlier days, they were only found in luxury cars where the safety of passengers was of utmost importance. Like ABS, RTO officials have also made airbags a mandatory feature in cars from August 2021 onwards, due to the increasing number of road accidents. With the latest RTO decision, all four wheelers manufactured in India after December 2021 should have dual airbags. Them.
