Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that an Indian saves around Rs 4000 per month from his data expenditure, when one compares the current data prices with the price in 2014. PM Modi said that in 2014 the cost of 1 GB data was Rs 300, but today its cost is around Rs 10 per GB.
“India now has the world’s lowest data charges. In 2014 the price of 1 GB data was around Rs 300. Currently the tariffs have come down to Rs 10 per GB. On an average, people today consume around 14 GB of data per month These 14 GB data used to cost Rs 4,200 in 2014 but today it costs around Rs 150 to Rs 200. Thus, an Indian saves around Rs 4000 per month,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi further said, “Due to the efforts of our government, the cost of data in India has remained very low. It is a different matter that we did not create any ruckus about it, did not give big advertisements. We focused on how Increasing the convenience of the people of the country, and increasing the ease of living.”
The Prime Minister also said that 5G marks the beginning of a new era and presents a sea of opportunities. He said that while the country is dependent on foreign countries for technology for 2G, 3G and 4G telecom services, India has created history with 5G. The Prime Minister said that his government’s vision for ‘Digital India’ was based on four pillars – cost of equipment, digital connectivity, data cost and digital-first approach.

He also said that due to various initiatives of the government, the number of mobile manufacturing units in India has increased from just two in 2014 to more than 200 now. He said that this has not only brought down the price of the smartphone, but people have also got better features at a lower cost.
