The fifth Test between India and England starting today has been cancelled, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Friday. There was uncertainty over the fifth and final Test match after another member of Team India’s support staff tested positive for Covid on Thursday. But all the Indian players had returned negative RT-PCR results on Thursday and it was expected that the match would go as per schedule, but it did not happen.
Following ongoing talks with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV=insurance test at Emirates Old Trafford, due to start today, will be cancelled.

“Following ongoing negotiations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV=Insurance Test between the men of England and India, starting today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be cancelled,” the ECB said in a media statement. “
“Due to the apprehension of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India is regretfully unable to field a team,” the statement further read.
