60 years after statehood, Nagaland will get its first medical college

Health and Family Welfare Commissioner and Secretary Y Kikheto Sema told a press conference that the session would begin by June-July this year.

Health and Family Welfare Minister P Paiwang Konyak on Wednesday said Nagaland has received approval to set up its first medical college since it attained statehood in 1963.

The Medical College will start its journey from the academic session 2023-24 with 100 MBBS students.

“We received approval from the National Medical Commission, Medical Assessment and Rating Board (NMC, MARB) for the medical college with 100 MBBS seats on Tuesday,” Konyak said at a press conference here.

He said that the state government would send the approval letter within a week to enable the MARB to issue the permission letter for the academic year 2023-24.

The minister said it was a “great and historic day” for the people of the northeastern state.

Out of 100 seats, 85 will be for the students of Nagaland while the remaining 15 will be reserved for candidates from other states.
