7th Pay Commission: Puducherry Home and Education Minister A Namassivam has announced that teachers working in government-aided schools in the Union Territory will get salary as recommended by the Central Seventh Pay Commission. There is good news for the teachers who have been demanding this for a long time.
The UT Administration has issued an order to implement the pay distribution as per the 7th Pay Commission report. The move comes after a delegation of teachers from aided schools met the home minister and thanked him for the announcement benefitting them.
As a union territory, Puducherry aligns its salaries and benefits for employees in the regional administration with the system prevalent in the central region.

Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet is expected to announce a hike in DA (Dearness Allowance) for central government employees and pensioners soon. If the hike is announced, the Center may increase DA by four percentage points to 42% from the current 38% for over one crore employees and pensioners.
The hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) depends on the most recent Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) released by the Ministry of Labor every month. According to the latest data, retail inflation eased marginally to 6.44 per cent in February, mainly due to a marginal decline in prices of food and fuel articles, though it remained above the RBI’s comfort level of 6 per cent for the second consecutive month.
