Bhubaneswar: 8,123 students received degrees at the 18th annual convocation KIIT Deemed University was organized here on Saturday. These include 6,330 bachelor’s, 1627 master’s, 163 PhD and three MPhil degrees. Medals were awarded to 71 students for their academic performance.
Addressing the students, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that knowledge is recognized as a key resource for achieving economic growth and social development. Wishing the graduates a bright future, he expressed confidence that they would make a mark in the society with their ideas and innovations.
Nobel laureate Rigoberta Menchu Tum addressed her convocation virtually, urging graduates to do something for those who are less privileged than her, even as they pursue their professional careers. John Desmond Forbes Anderson (Lord Waverly), Member of the British Parliament, UK, also spoke at the ceremony.
KIIT honored Honoris Causa Delight Degrees on six eminent persons from around the world including Himanshu Gulati, Member of Parliament, Norway, Bisho Parjuli, Delegate and Country Director, WFP India, Andreas Jan, Senior Foreign Policy Adviser and Germany, Deepa Malik, Chairperson of the Paralympic Committee of India.
KIIT Founder Achyut Samant congratulated the 2022 batch for their excellent performance despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. KIIT Chancellor Ashok Kumar Parija, Pro-Chancellor Dr SK Acharya and Vice Chancellor Sasmita Samant among others also addressed the gathering.
