2,03,260 COVID tests have been conducted in the state since yesterday (File)

Karnataka today reported 8,449 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours – 68 per cent more (5,031 cases) than yesterday. State capital Bengaluru alone reported 6,812 cases. On Wednesday, the state’s cases doubled to 4,246 in 24 hours.
The case positivity rate now stands at 4.15 per cent.
The Omicron variant, which is increasing the number of cases globally, has been detected in 107 people in the state in 24 hours. So far, 333 cases of the variant have been reported from Karnataka, which was the first case of the highly transmissible strain in India.
Four related deaths have been recorded, of which three are from Bengaluru.
Since yesterday, 2,03,260 COVID tests have been conducted in the state.
The state has been recording a steady rise in fresh infections for the past one week when the daily caseload stood at 566.
