Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation ,BMC) pasting ‘Thank You’ stickers in front of over 600 houses in the city on Sunday appreciating their steps before handing over the waste Trash To Cleaners,
On the first day of the drive, the BMC pasted these stickers in 600 houses, 200 in each of the three zones, as part of the Citizen Connect initiative to encourage people to segregate waste at their homes.
This campaign was carried out in Badagada Brit Colony near the police station under South East Zone. Saubhagya Nagar Bank Colony Under South West Zone and under Ward No-12 in Gajapati Nagar under North Zone.
Three types of stickers have been developed by the urban local body that distinguish households on the basis of the segregated waste being delivered to the BMC’s SafaiGadi.
The households giving different garbage were thanked by pasting green stickers in front of the house. The civic body put up orange stickers on homes for not giving mixed waste and requested residents to segregate the waste at source.
Some families, who do not give garbage and throw it out, were appealed to collect their garbage separately in the morning to the sanitation workers who collect the garbage. Official sources said that the BMC will put up red colored stickers on their doors.
BMC has 23 Micro Composting Centers (MCCs) covering around 32 wards. The wet waste collected from the houses is being used for making compost in these MCCs. There is a plan to increase the number of MCCs to 41. After this, all the wards of the municipal body will be brought under the ambit of this initiative.
The BMC has asked the residents to segregate dry waste and wet waste at their homes. Wet waste will be taken to MCC and dry waste will be processed at Material Recovery Facilities (MRF). There are 24 MRFs in the city, but eight of these facilities are functional.
