The man who was allegedly killed in the Ludhiana court blast has been identified as the attacker. On Friday, sources said that he was a dismissed policeman from Punjab. Sources said that many cases are registered in the name of a person named Gagandeep.

Police sources said that Gagandeep Singh was a resident of Khanna in Ludhiana and was dismissed from the post of head constable in a drug case.

Police had earlier said they suspected that the person killed in the blast was trying to collect or plant an explosive device.

Sources said that Gagandeep’s family in Khanna has also identified him. Police sources said he was dismissed from service in 2019. His mobile SIM card is believed to have helped identify him.

One person was killed and three were injured in Thursday’s blast inside the district court premises, police said. According to reports, the blast took place inside a bathroom on the second floor of the court building.

The explosion was so powerful that it damaged a wall of the bathroom, seriously injuring several people inside. The windows of several rooms were also damaged in the blast. Television images showed smoke billowing out of the building and people escaping safely soon after the blast.
