The Government of West Bengal has decided to temporarily suspend direct flights from UK to Kolkata from 3rd January due to the prevailing Omicron situation.
Also, flights from at-risk countries (as notified by the Government of India) will not be allowed to enter the state. “All passengers arriving from non-risk countries will have to mandatorily undergo COVID test on arrival (airline will have to select 10% of the total passengers for RT-PCR test and the remaining 90% by RAT test on arrival). must pass),” according to a statement issued by the government.

Meanwhile, India recorded 13,154 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, taking the number of active cases to 82,402, while the death toll rose to 4,80,860.
The health ministry said in a press conference that eight districts are reporting weekly positivity rates of more than 10 per cent; Six in Mizoram, one in Arunachal Pradesh and one in Bengal. The Ministry said that the positivity rate in Kolkata is 12.5%.
The Center appealed for strict monitoring in view of the sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.
