Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) chairman Ravi Shankar Mijar said the authority plans to develop 50 lakes in the city within 18 months. “We have started work on 20 lakes in the city, and eight have already been developed. Work is in progress on the remaining ponds. Meanwhile, MUDA has a proposal to develop parks at 83 locations in the city. Soon we will start the work of developing the park in the city. Miyawaki forests will be developed at 10 places in the city.
MUDA has identified eight wards in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits where greenery is scarce. He said that emphasis would be laid on such wards and more activities would be started to plant saplings in those areas.
Former MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik lauded Tulsi Gowda and said that the environmentalist was awarded the country’s fourth highest civilian award for his passion for the environment. “Tulsi Gowda has taught us how people should live life in harmony with nature,” he said.
