CES 2022: Cadillac unveils autonomous concept car InnerSpace

The vehicle’s fully autonomous capability means they can explore the world around them as well as more personalized and tailored experiences inside the vehicle that add new dimensions to Cadillac’s signature luxury experience.

Cadillac unveiled a theatrical, two-passenger electric and autonomous luxury vehicle called InnerSpace at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Leveraging state-of-the-art technologies designed to enhance the passenger experience along with increased personal time enabled by fully autonomous mobility, Innerspace enhances the Cadillac Helo concept portfolio of vehicles, envisioned not only to provide passengers with a luxurious carried into the environment but also to enhance their well-being.

Cadillac introduced the first two Halo concepts at CES last year: PersonalSpace, a single-seat, individual vertical takeoff and landing concept designed to literally lift its passenger above the noise and ground traffic congestion, and SocialSpace, A spacious, autonomous vehicle for up to six, designed to help passengers relax and recharge.

Conceptually, the portfolio aims to reimagine how travelers use their time on the go, providing a space for rest and respite. Full autonomy relinquishes the responsibility of vehicle control while theatrical design and advanced technologies maintain the feel of reaching Cadillac.

In fact, technologies such as biometric input and AI machine learning are used and complement Cadillac’s Signature Luxury environment to support unique wellness experiences. Through software-defined features and enhanced vehicle connectivity, the Cadillac Concept Halo portfolio can provide each passenger with a truly personalized experience made possible by GM’s Ultifi software platform. Altify enables seamless delivery of software updates over the air to customers. The experiences showcased within the Halo portfolio demonstrate potential as both Ultifi and autonomous technology continue to evolve.

The new InnerSpace concept re-imagines that vision with a fully autonomous experience that allows two passengers to focus on their journey and not the driving.

The vehicle’s fully autonomous capability means they can explore the world around them as well as more personalized and tailored experiences inside the vehicle that add new dimensions to Cadillac’s signature luxury experience. AI-powered biometric input and interface, accessible through a large, immersive and panoramic SMD LED display, allows passengers to select from Augmented Reality Engagement, Entertainment and Wellness Recovery themes for their drives. Thanks to Ultifi, Cadillac engineers and authorized third parties will be able to innovate additional themes and features that can be added over the air.

Along with the Altium platform’s wireless battery management system, battery modules are spread about the concept vehicle, allowing designers to optimize the cabin for spaciousness and serenity. This design freedom also allowed for a low-profile floor, providing extremely low, sports car-like seating.

Externally, the dramatically designed innerspace features wide, panoramic glass on the ceiling and body parts for almost unobstructed views. The roof opens with doors for more comfortable entry and exit, and when the doors are opened the seats also slide out, enhancing the effect.

Even the innerspace’s tires are designed to contribute to its consolation. Developed by Goodyear for electrified vehicles, they feature SoundComfort technology, which is designed to help reduce sound wave resonance within tires for a quieter ride, while soybean oil and rice bran-based Silica replaces petroleum-based oil as a key ingredient in their manufacture. And because autonomous driving strips away some of the driver’s connection with the road, the Goodyear Sightline, Goodyear’s tire intelligence technology, delivers important information about pressure, temperature, load and other performance factors.
