Within eleven days from the start of this new year, Telangana Police has levied 62,711 e-challans for those not wearing masks.
After the Telangana High Court recently passed a slew of directions, including mandatory wearing of masks by every person visiting public places, police increased surveillance.

Of these 62,711 challans, around 14,000 had already paid the fine online.
“With a fine of Rs 1,000 for every violation, we have already received over Rs 14 lakh as fine online,” a police officer said. Hindu, These e-challans were issued in two modes.
In the jurisdiction of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates, e-invoicing was done using camera surveillance system.
On the basis of the video footage, those who were driving two wheelers without wearing masks were identified.
Under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, vehicle owners were challaned for violating the rules regarding not wearing masks.
“It is tantamount to online challaning for traffic rules violations identified through footage from video cameras,” the police officer said. In districts, field-level police officers clicked pictures of violators using tabs given to them by the government.
Mulugu lowest
Hyderabad Police Commissionerate topped the list with the highest number of violations (16,569) of non-wearing of masks, while the lowest was reported in Mulugu district (222).
