A petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking censorship on future posts made by the actress to maintain law and order in the country. The petition, filed by advocate Charanjit Singh Chanderpal, sought a direction to transfer all FIRs lodged across India to Mumbai’s Khar police station for his remarks on farmers’ protest. They also sought speedy trial within a period of two years along with filing of chargesheet within a period of six months.
The advocate said that Ranaut’s remarks and social media posts were “not only derogatory and blasphemous”, but claimed that the actress had an “intent to riot”.
“The comments are not only derogatory and blasphemous, but also intended to incite riots, hurt religious sentiments, they are defamatory as well as portray Sikhs in a completely anti-national manner. It also shows the innocent killing of Sikhs. The comment is completely against the unity of our country and the actress deserves severe punishment in law. They cannot be dismissed or condoned.”
The petition filed said that the court was required to direct the Union Home Ministry and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to ban Ranaut’s social media posts and take preventive measures.
