Student unfurls saffron flag at Government Pre-University College campus in Shivamogga

The Shivamogga district administration has imposed prohibitory orders in Shivamogga town on February 8 and 9, following incidents of stone pelting during protests over the hijab dispute in college campuses.

Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Selvamani R. Hindu Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were issued after some incidents of stone pelting. He said that the Shivamogga Tehsildar had issued the order.

Incidents of stone pelting took place in the Government Pre-University College campus in Shivamogga during the protests. Hundreds of students wearing saffron shawls gathered in the campus shouting slogans Long live Rama, One of the protesters climbed the flag post and hoisted the saffron flag.

Some students suffered minor injuries in stone pelting. It is not clear who pelted stones at the students.

Police used sticks to disperse the students. Superintendent of Police BM Lakshmi Prasad and Deputy Commissioner R Selvamani visited the premises.
