Delhi University to open from February 17; Protesting students call off hunger strike – Times of India

New Delhi: Students of Delhi University on Wednesday called off their indefinite hunger strike after the university announced its reopening from February 17.

Delhi University Proctor Prof. Rajni Abhi announced that the university will reopen from February 17 and informed that the classes will run completely in offline mode and no hybrid mode of classes will be allowed.

“Today was the third day of their protest. We are informing the students that we are going to open the university. Suddenly, the DDMA order came to open the university. For them, the teaching will be in complete offline mode, not even in hybrid mode,” said Prof. Abhi.

Referring to the guidelines of DDMA, the professor said that he has asked to run the university in offline mode.

DUSU President Akshit Dahiya said that the university had to be reopened due to the struggle of the students.

The DUSU president said he would treat the university’s reopening announcement as a celebration as a “victory”.

“Today the Proctor, Dean Students Welfare, Registrar and other administrative officers came and addressed all the students. This letter states that the campus will remain open from February 17, 2022. Hence, we have now ended our indefinite hunger strike. There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm among the students and we will celebrate this victory as a celebration.

Pankaj Arora, Dean of Students Welfare informed that the university will run a special drive from February 14 to 18 for those students who have not been vaccinated for Kovid-19 yet.

“We are also sensitive to students who are from outside Delhi. Hence, we want them to have time to come to Delhi and stay in isolation.”
