More than 55% voting recorded in the sixth phase of UP assembly elections

More than 55 percent voting was recorded on Thursday in the sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Among the 676 candidates for 57 seats in 10 districts in this phase, prominent faces include Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur Urban and State Congress President Ajay Kumar Lallu from Tamkuhi Raj.

According to provisional data updated till 7 pm, 55.79 per cent polling was recorded. In the 2017 assembly elections, 56.47 percent voter turnout was recorded in these 57 seats. Officials said the final tally would be released by the election officials later.

With this, voting has been done on 349 out of the total 403 assembly seats. The last phase of polling for the remaining 54 seats will be held on March 7. Around 2.15 crore people were eligible to vote in this phase. Voting started at 7 am and went on till 6 pm.

The districts where polling took place on Thursday include Ambedkar Nagar, Balrampur, Siddharth Nagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria and Ballia. In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had won 46 out of 57 seats.

According to the Election Commission of India’s turnout app, around 53.31 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm. Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO) BDR Tiwari said polling in the state was conducted peacefully.

According to the Home Department, 62.66 percent in Ambedkarnagar, 52.01 percent in Ballia, 48.90 percent in Balrampur, 57.20 percent in Basti, 56 percent in Deoria, 58.89 percent in Gorakhpur, 59 percent in Kushinagar, 59.5 percent in Maharajganj, Sant voted.
