China’s prime minister on Friday described the situation in Ukraine as “serious” and offered Beijing’s help in playing a “positive role” for peace, refusing to criticize Russia.
“We support and encourage all efforts conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis,” Li Keqiang told reporters at an annual news conference.
Li Keqiang also announced his retirement as a premier, saying “this is the last year I will premiere”.
“The job of pressure now is to keep the tension from escalating or getting out of control,” Lee said.
China has largely sided with Russia in the conflict, which it has refused to refer to as war or aggression. The US accused Beijing of helping to spread false news and misinformation from Moscow.
