It was the domestic product that took the lead in counting the votes for the audience choice EV of the Year with the Tata Tigor EV. Tata’s most affordable EVs worked side-by-side with luxury EVs from European manufacturers to vie for awards including the new Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron and e-tron GT, and the Jaguar I-Pace.
While it was on sale for a few years now, the Tigor EV received a major update in 2021 to update the styling in line with the Tigor facelift and replace the older 72V electric powertrain with the more powerful Ziptron EV powertrain technology. The electric sedan comes with a new permanent magnet synchronous electric motor along with a 26 kWh lithium-ion battery that makes 73 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque. Tata claims that the EV will accelerate from 0-60 kmph in 5.7 seconds. The new battery pack gives the EV a claimed range of 306km.
The Tigor EV supports both regular AC and DC fast charging, so you can charge from 0 to 80 percent in about 65 minutes. Meanwhile AC home charger takes around 8.5 hours for the same.
