Higher Education Minister R. Bindu on Friday formally launched the Kerala University’s library network which brings together all its library resources under a single system.
The ‘One University, One Library’ network connects approximately one million books, rare documents, thesis, government publications, periodicals, and others, which are stocked in 56 libraries, including the Kerala University Library at Palayam, the Campus Library at Karyavattam Is. Libraries in 44 teaching departments, seven inter-university centres, and study centers at Kollam, Pandalam and Alappuzha.
The library system has become fully automated with Koha, an open source library management system. The network will enable researchers, teachers and students to locate books and access a plethora of information, including author and publisher details, as well as the number of copies available. This system enables librarians to identify the books which are in demand among the readers and facilitates effective book management by removing the less liked books in a phased manner.
Health Minister Veena George released the work report of the Palliative Clubs running in various affiliated colleges and also felicitated the best performing students in this regard. On this occasion, Dr. Bindu also honored the teachers and meritorious students who did research in the university.
The speakers included Vice Chancellor VP Mahadevan Pillai, Pro-Vice Chancellor PP Ajaykumar, Registrar KS Anil Kumar and Syndicate member KH Babujan.
