Hyderabad Traffic Police has recently clarified that there has been no discussion on extending the deadline for offering exemption on vehicle challans. That is, the offer of one-time discount on pending traffic challans will end on March 31.
A special drive was launched to give relief to the vehicle owners. This exemption is applicable for one month from March 1 to March 31.
Hyderabad’s Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) AV Ranganath had said that the initiative has been taken in view of the financial hardship faced by many people during the last two years due to the COVID pandemic. “Many people could not pay the outstanding challans on time. The challans were piled up. So to give some relief, we have come up with this solution. It is not an income-generating or revenue-generating campaign, it is providing relief. It is for the passengers,” Ranganath said.
Two wheelers and three wheelers are given a rebate of 75 per cent which means they have to pay only 25 per cent of the penalty amount. For example, if the invoice amount is 1,000, the vehicle owner will have to pay 250. In addition, light motor vehicles and heavy motor vehicles have given 50 per cent exemption and the remaining 50 per cent is due.
A 70% rebate has been given to RTC drivers, which means only 30 per cent of the fine amount is payable. 80 percent discount has been offered to pushcart sellers.
Ranganath said that 90 percent discount has been given on the challan issued for not wearing a mask.
