Birbhum massacre: Two more held for killing TMC Panchayat officer

Bengal’s Birbhum district police have arrested two more people for their alleged involvement in the murder of a TMC panchayat officer, taking the total number of people arrested in the case to six so far, a senior official said on Thursday. Violence had erupted in Bogtui village of the district after the killing of panchayat deputy chief Bhadu Sheikh last week, in which miscreants attacked and set houses on fire, killing at least nine people, including children.

The police officer said that both the accused were picked up from Nalhati and Margram, where both were hiding after the murder of the Trinamool Congress leader on March 21. At least 10 FIRs have been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with Sheikh’s murder. The CBI is investigating the Bogatui massacre that followed.

A team of CBI officials visited Marggram during the day in search of Sheikh’s two brothers, a probe agency official said. They also visited a CCTV-equipped house in Bogatui village, which had been abandoned by its residents after the massacre, in search of a hard disk that apparently contained footage from cameras.

According to the official, the hard disk was “missing”, while other items were intact. He said the house was “sealed” to prevent further tampering with evidence.

Later in the day, the team stopped near Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital and collected CCTV footage from there to ascertain who visited the medical establishment after the bodies of the victims and five other injured were taken there, the CBI official said. Were. The CBI also questioned a senior officer of Nalhati police station and two other officers of Rampurhat police station in connection with the interrogation.

So far no arrest has been made by the agency.
