Chennai Mayor R. Priya said the DMK high command will decide on action against the relatives of the women councillors, including their husbands, who usurp their powers.

Addressing the media at the launch of the Gender Lab for Women, Ms Priya said that the councilors in Chennai, especially women, were aware of their role and responsibility.

Responding to questions about video clips of men illegally holding the post of councillors, he said: “Women councilors should represent the people and do their job on their own terms. If any person other than those elected by the people misuses the office, the party high command will take action. After a large number of women councilors were elected in Chennai, residents started sharing the details of husbands of these councilors illegally holding their office, acting on their behalf and exercising their powers on social media. .

Recently a video of the husband of a woman councilor, who was seen sitting in the office of a ward councilor in North Chennai and arguing with a resident, was shared on social media.
