The Puducherry Congress Committee on Friday criticized the NR Congress government for maintaining silence on its demand to implement 10% reservation policy for government school students in private medical colleges.
PCC chief AV Subramaniam said in a statement on Friday that the previous Congress government had taken a cabinet decision to provide 10% reservation for students of government schools in private medical colleges. The plan could not be implemented by the Congress government after the then Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi decided not to act on the file. The PCC chief said Ms Bedi had sent the cabinet decision to the central government for approval.
Nearly 10 months have passed since the All India NR Congress-led National Democratic Alliance government came to power in the Union Territory. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has not uttered a word on the implementation of the reservation policy.
He said the chief minister should have approached the Center to implement 10% reservation for government school students in private medical colleges.
